Revolutions! Assessment

You guys have all been asking for an open note test and here it is!

Being the kind teacher that I am, I also made it open book.  How awesome am I!

Let me take it a step farther - it is TAKE HOME!

If you are gone today, make sure you email me or send me a note on Facebook, Twitter or shoot me an email, I will send it on to you.  Anyone who needs to make it up will have TWO days to get the completed assessment to me.

A cautionary note, just because it is open note, open book, take home...that does not make it "easy".  You know that is so not me. I am raising the bar and you are reaching up to achieve it.  You all know as you get stronger, there is some burn with it.  Academics are no different.  You got this.

See me if you need anything.

And for your view pleasure...it will help alleviate the stress!

Triangle Shirtwaist Factory

Today, we wrapped up the Prezi that I shared with you yesterday.  From there we took a look at the conditions that were seen in many factories, through the lens of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory.  PBS does an amazing job portraying the lives of these girls through this documentary!

If you missed today, here is the video.  As you watch this documentary, complete a T-Chart that allows you to note the POSITIVE effects of the Industrial Revolution and the NEGATIVE effects as well.

Tomorrow, we have Service Learning.  Please make sure that you have your Revolution Essay!  It is due tomorrow! Your DBQ essay AND packet are due Monday!

Let's Get Writing

You have done all the leg work for your DBQ, now we start writing.  I know some of you have already begun working on this at home, which is awesome.  Today will be the only day in class that we have to work on it, as tomorrow we move to the Industrial Revolution.  Your Final Draft of your DBQ is due Monday, May 12, 2014.  After that date I will not ask you for it, but you may turn it in anytime before June 6th.

Today we went back through the structure of your essay from this DBQ.  I know it is kinda scary to be writing so much, but you got this.

Don't forget...for each of your body paragraphs, you need to provide EVIDENCE or PROOF from your documents.  Otherwise this would just be a plain old boring essay, as opposed to a Document Based Question.  You don't want to be boring, do you??

Revolution Essays are still due Friday!

Toussaint Louverture DBQ Part 3

Putting it all together!  Today is the day we take all the puzzle pieces and put it together.  In case you have been absent, HERE is part 1 and HERE is part 2.

Today we are work with Part 3, in case you left/lost your DBQ packet, HERE it is.

We worked with the Bucketing, discussed the documents that you have been working with since last week, and categorized them into three categories - Military Leader, Leader of SD and Liberator of Slaves.  He was indeed all three of these, but you need to decide what evidence PROVES that he was.

After you have completed your categorization of the documents (make sure you also did the analysis of each document, using the questions under each one) you can move on the the Chicken Foot graphic organizer on the same page. This will give you the Thesis statement for all of your paragraphs.  (HINT - We wrote several thesis for the opening grabber, you could probably apply one to your conclusion paragraph!)

From here, complete page 123's organizer and start writing.  Be sure to refer back to the document you are using as evidence and use QUOTES when citing it verbatim! We will have time tomorrow for the rough draft, but that will be the end of class time for this essay.
It is due NEXT MONDAY - May 12th.  You can send me the link or document through email, or you can attach your Google Docs link HERE in the comments section.

Good luck!

PS - Revolution Essays are still due Friday - NO EXCUSES!

Toussaint Louverture DBQ Part 2

Yesterday we started working with the background information needed to ROCK the TL DBQ Essay you are going to compose next week.  Today, we are continuing that quest. This packet is considered Assignment #34.

Part 2 begins today and the whole purpose of today's portion in document analysis.  The very word analysis takes us beyond WHAT the words say and into WHAT DOES THAT TRULY MEAN?  To look beyond the literally wordage of the document and into the perspective of the time period AND the author.  Which side of the issue was that person on?  What conclusion can YOU draw from the data provided based on the information YOU bring to the table.  This does require YOU to be actively involved in the reading of these documents.

By Monday, please complete the Question led Analysis of Documents A-F, even if we did not complete them in class.  I have included them in the link above, in case you were absent or forgot your packet at school.

Some Reminders:

  • TOMORROW - we have service learning with Pardeep.  Bring something to write with AND a focused attitude.
  • TOMORROW - Your French Revolution assignment is due - 3 of the 7 Tasks are required AND 1 of the 2 Extension Activities!  Let me know if you need my Glogster code for your poster activity!
  • TOMORROW IS FRIDAY!  You made it!
