Welcome Back!

Happy Tuesday!  We missed you over break.  I hope you are ready for the final stretch.  Let's finish this year strong.  No matter where you are, you can kick it up a notch!  DO IT!

So, in case you missed class today, let's get you all caught up.  We are taking a look at the FRENCH REVOLUTION!!  Make sure you get the notes if you missed them!

The Handout for the French Revolution Project can be found HERE.  Choose 3 of the 7 tasks and complete them on a sheet of loose leaf paper.  PLEASE NUMBER them so that I know what you are addressing!!!!  You also must choose to do one Extension project.  If you choose to do Extension 1, please write 3 paragraphs and follow the directions.  If you choose to do Extension 2, you can either do a traditional poster OR you can create a Glog and send me the link.  If you need a cheat sheet for Glogster.com, you can download it HERE.  This is Assignment #32.

From Rebellion to Revolution!

I love the series Revolution from the History Channel a few years ago.  It came out back in the days of VCRs and I recorded them off my DVR so I could take out the commercials and show them in class without having to deal with fast forwarding. Luckily, thanks to some very generous donors, I know own it on DVD.

But, my DVD does not help you much if you are reading this from home because you missed today.

Monday's Sub Work

Sorry I missed you guys yesterday, playing nursemaid to sick family members puts you at risk for catching what they had.  Apparently Lyesol and Handwashing was not enough.

BUT, I am back.  Today we are going to talk about the American Revolution.  Make sure you get the notes!!  We will also work on the essays.

YESTERDAY'S WORK -  Read p.640-645 and complete p. 645 (1-5, 6,8).

 



   

HOUR 3 - Please make sure you also copy the chart from page 708 and answer the 2 questions - they will be checked in the next binder check.  I do apologize for those of you handling your business.  I will make sure to get the 2 slides you missed to you.

Let's Pull in The Text

I need to keep you reading.  We need to get your reading skills up to a level where college will be an amazing experience and not a stressful experience.  (Well, at least not because you are struggling to read the assignments, anyway.)  Yesterday, we read the Oliver Cromwell  article and completed the Hero or Villain assignment.  Today I am going to have you work out of your text.  It is written in much the same manner as your textbook for college level Western Civ classes are, and therefore makes good practice.  So, for today, I need you to read pp. 614-617.  As you are reading complete the chart on page 617 #2. AFTER you are done reading, please complete p. 617 (3-7).

Oliver Cromwell: Hero or Villian

Oliver Cromwell was revered by some and reviled by others. (Look up those words - annotate this post!)

Today, you need to decide - was he a hero to those being held down by the king or was he a villain simply continuing the terror he was fighting against with the monarchy. Read through the article and annotate it, of course. On your second time through, complete the t-chart and make your decision.  Jerkface or lionhearted warrior?  You decide!

So, by Friday, you will have 2 paragraphs - first one will tell me about Oliver Cromwell - who was he, what did he do, what did he believe?  In your second paragraph, was he a villain or was he a hero?  Make sure that you back up your decision with historical facts!  DUE FRIDAY!

We are working to get all of you guys up to where you need to be in terms of reading level.  Some of you are busting your backsides to make that happen.  KUDOS to you!  One of the tools that you have available to you, is the Active Reading strategies we are implementing across the building.  I know you are getting annoyed with me asking you to annotate EVERYTHING!.  I get it, it takes longer.  But, in the end, you will be glad you have these skills in college and any other path of post-secondary education you choose to journey down.  After doing it for EVERY DANG ARTICLE, that I give you, it will eventually become second nature and you will no longer have to reference the sheet in your binder or the posters on my wall.
