US History 9/15/2014

Okay, so here is today's Prezi on Jamestown - totally borrowed! But, it will help you dramatically if you missed the notes or any portion of the notes from today!

A reminder that yesterday's essay is due tomorrow.  Make sure you complete it!  No excuses on this one! If you do not get it in, you will be out of luck for feedback.

Tomorrow - Roanoke!

APUSH 9/16/2014

Morning!  Keep working on those DBQs.  Remember they are due Friday. Take a look at your notes and the Prezi that is posted here. Don't forget to bring in outside information, that is what will make your essay shine!

Today:
In case you missed today, be sure to get your notes from someone.  We also did an analysis of this letter from Richard Frethorne, an indentured servant. After breaking it down, we answered the following questions:
Describe the life of the indentured servant as presented in this letter.
What are some of the problems he and the other servants experienced?
What are their biggest fears?
What does a historian learn about life in the 17c Chesapeake colony?

APHG - 9/15/2014

Today, we continued Ferris Bueller's project.  We were in the lab working on the mapping, tomorrow you can work on your essay.  BUT, this will be the only time that we will be working on this in class.

Deadline - Friday, start of class.  You can email it to me, print it out or neatly write in by hand, in blue or black ink.

US History 9/15/2014

Good morning!

Please make sure you are bringing your books and your binders to class.  If you need a binder, see me on Friday with your 5 Redcat Tickets in hand.

Note Staches??  How do I get one, Halsey?  You can buy a Note Stache for 10 of MY Redcat Tickets or FORTY of any other combination of teachers' tickets.

New business:

Evidence trackers will help you make sense of Standards Based Grading.

Keep your scores here - on this handy dandy tracker.  You can know EXACTLY how you are doing and what you need to focus on.

Today's assignment:

In case you missed it, today we did an on demand writing practice assessment.  The chart that you were to have completed for today's class should have helped you focus your writing.  Sadly, it appears many people did not complete the chart that was assigned last Wednesday.  Please make sure that you do complete your assignments, even if it is practice, it helps build to where we are going.

So, that being said, let's get to today's assignment - 5 paragraphs - pick a side.  Was it worth it?  Your three body paragraphs should be three reasons to support your stance, 1 paragraph each. Conclusion should wrap it up nicely.  Since there are so many people who did not complete the chart, please use your book and notes as reference tools.  This will be due at the BEGINNING of class Thursday. Use the TACOS method for your paragraph structure, even though this is not a DBQ!
Analyze the impact of the Columbian exchange (the interchange of plants, animals, and diseases between the Old World and the New World) on the native populations of America in the period 1550 to 1700.  Justify the motives of the Europeans – was it worth it?

APUSH - 9/15/2014

Now that you have really broken down and analyzed the documents and are ready to write your essay, here are some of the pieces we used in class.  They are readily available here, anytime you need them.  Click on them to enlarge them or feel free to download them to your phone/computer.

APHG - 9/12/2014

We finished Ferris today, got our groups in place and now we are off to the real work.  Over the weekend, complete your map of Ferris's adventures.  Be sure you find a way to calculate the distance from place to place and see if you can find the speed limit. Consider how much time was approximately spent at each location.

Monday, we'll be ready to pick sides for our debate!

Have a great weekend!

US History 9/12/2014

I hope you all got your maps in...however, my pile o'papers feels a little light!  Get your tails in gear on Monday - have your Yellow Sheet filled out and in my binder before C lunch, and I will still let you turn in the map, even though it is LATE!  Don't get used to such generosity, however.

While you are working on being so studious, be sure to complete the colonial comparison chart this weekend as well.  It will help you DRAMATICALLY when it comes to the on demand writing you will have on Monday!  Check out Wednesday's post, in case you need a refresher! (That post will have your map assignment and some resources, as well!)

Enjoy your weekend and come back to me safe on Monday!

APUSH 9/12/14 JumpStart on Writing Your DBQ!

If you are interested in getting started on your DBQ, we are going to work on your intro and conclusion paragraphs on Monday.  Here is the Prezi that we will be using.  Feel free to take a look!  If the link doesn't work on your phone, let me know.

Have a great weekend!!

APHG 9/10/14

Bueller...Bueller...Bueller...

Okay, we started our Ferris Bueller Project.  In case you miss any of the showings of it, it is available on Netflix for streaming and Amazon does include it in Amazon Prime, if you have  subscription.

If you need to get caught up, some of the stops on Ferris's adventure thus far include:

  •  His House - his sister, Jeanie, Leaves for school around 7:45am
  • Ferris then calls Cameron, who has also stayed home. He then changes the computer at school's record of his absences, drinks by the pool, plays around in his room, calls school to tell them how sick he is, before Cameron arrives. Figure it is 9:15am by this point.
  • When they arrive at Cameron's (after Cameron arrives at Ferris's house) and pick up the sweet ride, it is approximately 9:30am.

  • Cameron and Ferris then trick Ed Rooney to bring Sloane outside to be picked up. So when Ferris and Cameron arrive to pick up Sloane it's got to be approximately 10 am.
  • Okay, let us assume it is a 1/2 hour to downtown Chicago. This means it is 10:30 by the time they arrive at the parking lot.
Here are the basics of what we have seen so far.  Now, you need to find the relative locations and the absolute locations of each.  You should also calculate the distance from each place.

Have a great day!

APUSH 9/10/2014

YAY!!!  I got a post up!

Now to get APUS up here!  I will get every assignment/assessment on here, as well as other tidbits that will help direct you in the right direction.

So, let's start with today!

Here is the article (On the Destruction of the Indies) that we read in class today.  Page 1 and Page 2.  Sorry, since I printed it at home, I never thought to save it to my flashdrive and you are stuck with a scanned PDF. ;)  I am certain you will survive!  And HERE is the reflection for the article.  Please make sure that you have it prepared for tomorrow's class.

Have a  great day and be amazing!

US History - 9/10/2014

Welcome back!  I promise I will try to be good and get this up every day!  So, this week, first assessment is due on FRIDAY!  Don't forget, if you do not have it done, you will need to fill out a YELLOW SHEET in order to  turn it in LATE!  So, don't be late.  Here are the handouts for that assessment, if you lost yours, feel free to print out a new one! BE SURE to look at the rubric, they are tied DIRECTLY to your standards!

Please know that there are other maps and resources available to you!

Here is the slide from today!  Remember, we made adjustments to the assignment, you do not have artifacts.  Use your textbook - Chapter 2 - for information.  Have this ready to go for tomorrow!
